Located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge is scenic Marin County, California, a coastal paradise with pristine bays, lakes and beaches perfect for exploring nature, hiking, enjoying a picnic, or just relaxing.

Stinson Beach is the most popular beach on Marin’s coast; its white sand, easy access, and proximity to Muir Woods makes it a desirable location for visitors.

Rodeo Beach and Lagoon are located within stunning Marin Headlands, and part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The best time to visit Rodeo Beach and Lagoon is during the week as weekends are prime time for Bay Area locals. This beach is pet-friendly and a favorite for surfers too. Enjoy a walk on the Rodeo Beach Coastal & Miwok Trail for coastal forests and stunning ocean views.

Muir Beach is a sheltered cove that has a sandy, secluded beach. It’s strikingly beautiful with a creek and nearby dense woods providing opportunities to view wildlife, such as monarch butterflies in the pine trees and frogs in the marsh, as well as foxes, birds, deer, and coyote on the hills. Muir Beach Overlook sits above the beach and perfect for panoramic viewing.

On the Northwest Marin Coast is Point Reyes National Seashore with 80 miles of coastline and 11 beaches; a few which are accessible by car including Drakes Beach, Limantour Beach, North and South Beaches. The other 7 beaches are accessible by hiking only; all Point Reyes beaches are worth the drive or hike.

It’s important to plan your adventure in our coastal paradise. Hot days can make Marin beaches extremely popular. Be sure to plan your visit in advance and try to visit these popular spots on weekdays to avoid crowds. Marin does its best in protecting our beaches; being mindful of “Leave No Trace” principles is key.
