Small Towns, Big Flavors, all right here in Hendricks County, Indiana.

Want to escape the every day and experience the small-town square or idyllic main street you might see in a Hallmark movie? Just west of Indianapolis, the towns of Danville and Plainfield provide a foodie’s paradise wrapped in small-town Americana.
Danville boasts a long history that you can see throughout the town’s architecture. You can’t beat its courthouse square, surrounded by numerous little shops featuring handmade goods and destination restaurants.
The town is perhaps best known for the Mayberry Cafe, which fans of The Andy Griffith Show flock to from around the world. Get your picture taken with the squad car outside and then head in to enjoy the comfort food you would swear Aunt Bee cooked. Memorabilia from the show lines the walls, menu items are named after characters and you can watch the show on TVs, visible from every seat while you eat.
Another foodie destination is the Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery, a mother-daughter operation serving breakfast and lunch. Known for its stunning and delectable pies and cakes made from scratch in-house, this restaurant has even received national attention from The Today Show.
No visit to Danville is complete without experiencing Beasley’s Orchard, a multi-generational apple farm that has become a year-round agricultural destination. Tour its Civil War-era barn market, sample its award-winning apple cider and enjoy picking fruits and flowers from their seasonal u-pick areas. If you visit in the fall, the activities on the farm multiply and include hayrides, apple cannons and more.
Just a short 10-minute drive from Danville, you can explore Plainfield. Founded by Quakers, this up-and-coming Indy suburb, known for its fantastic trail system, sits on the old National Road (U.S. 40).
Visitors will love exploring the downtown area, including the Oasis Diner, a 1954-era diner on the brink of extinction before it was saved and moved into its downtown location. The developers who saved and renovated it doubled down by turning the town’s nearby historic theater into an upscale restaurant with an ever-changing menu and creative cocktails. Since opening two years ago with roof-top seating and live entertainment on weekends, The Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge has won many awards for its creative reuse of a historic property. It is now a gathering place for so many and has Indy residents driving in to Plainfield to check it out.
Finally, Plainfield’s centerpiece opened this past year with the construction of Hendricks Live! This 600-seat entertainment venue has become a focal point for residents and visitors alike, receiving rave reviews for its intimate setting to enjoy musical acts, Broadway shows, comedians and more.
