Autumn in Nacogdoches is nothing short of magical. As the season sets in, crimson oaks and golden maples paint the town in rich color, and tree-lined paths along the Lanana Creek Trail and throughout the SFA Gardens invite you to slow down and soak it all in. By late November, the fall foliage begins to bloom, an annual reminder of just how beautiful East Texas can be.

Fall also brings some of Nacogdoches’ most beloved traditions. On Shop Small Saturday, the scent of cinnamon and spice fills the air during our annual Wassail Fest, a friendly, Hallmark-worthy competition where downtown businesses serve up their take on the classic warm drink. Strolling from shop to shop with a steaming cup in hand is one of the coziest ways to kick off the holiday season in a place where community and tradition go hand in hand.

Fall is also a wonderful time to explore Nacogdoches’ deep-rooted history. As the air turns crisp, walking tours and museum visits take on a new charm. Sites like the restored Zion Hill Baptist Church and the historic Sterne-Hoya House offer meaningful glimpses into the people and stories that shaped the oldest town in Texas.

Autumn in Nacogdoches

As autumn gives way to winter, Nacogdoches quietly embraces the holiday season with timeless Southern charm. Downtown storefronts light up with festive window displays, each one thoughtfully decorated by local shopkeepers, adding warmth and sparkle to the brick-lined streets. In December, the Nine Flags Christmas Festival brings generations together for the annual parade and community celebrations, while Millard’s Crossing Historic Village hosts its beloved Old-Fashioned Christmas, complete with tree lightings, carols, and cozy glimpses into holidays of the past.

No matter the season, Nacogdoches offers a reason to stay a little longer.
