Springtime is the season for lots of fun events in Upshur County, drawing residents and visitors alike to take part in the lively festivities. In April comes the Spring into Art Juried Art Festival. Taking place at The Opera on Main Street in Buckhannon, this event will feature numerous artists showcasing their works. Take the opportunity to purchase something from a local craftsperson or buy a great unique gift for someone special.
May will bring the 82nd West Virginia Strawberry Festival, which will be held in downtown Buckhannon from the 11th to the 19th. Originally founded as a way to honor local strawberry growers and increase sales, the festival has grown into a week-long celebration of fun, whose theme this year is Mardi Gras! This year’s festival is sure to delight your ears, as it will feature a qualifying event endorsed by the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB), offering national and international bands the opportunity to vie for an invitation to the prestigious main WAMSB event.
The fun here runs into the summer season, with the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash in early June and the Upshur County Uprising, a West Virginia Mountain Bike Association race, on June 30th. In fact, all summer long, Create Buckhannon hosts Festival Friday’s in Jawbone Park featuring local artisans, vendors and musicians every Friday evening from June through August.
