Caroline County is a luxuriant, rural community nestled between Richmond, Virginia and Washington D.C., linked to both cities by Interstate 95. The County seat, the Historic Town of Bowling Green, is a postcard perfect southern town that is emerging as an exciting art & cultural center. Caroline’s new antiquing hotspot is the colonial Historic Town of Port Royal, situated along the banks of the Rappahannock River.

Yes, history is here, from colonial times with General Washington on the Rochambeau Trail; through the civil war years with both Generals Grant and Lee on their way to Richmond; to the dramatic ending of Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth; Caroline County has remarkable history. Museums in Bowling Green and Port Royal commemorate our story through artifacts and art throughout the County.

Today’s visitors have a lot of fun choices: Golf at three different golf courses with the Mattaponi Springs course offering overnight stays; Bowling Green’s Harvest Festival is 34 years young, is a one-day event and will entertain more than 15,000 participants with car shows, vendors, music, and rural county charm; enjoy the State Fair of Virginia and many other events held at the Meadow Even Park, while exploring the history of the birthplace of racing’s Triple Crown Champion, Secretariat. The Meadow Event Park hosts exciting A-List bands through their concert series, and is the premier destination for on-site hosting of national and international association meetings that have hundreds of members.

Whatever your interest, history touring, museums, festivals, State Fairs, music or just the option of slowing down in a beautiful community–Caroline County Welcomes You.
