A trip to northeastern North Carolina isn’t complete without a visit to the “Birthplace of American Independence” – Historic Halifax State Historic Site.  Step back in time to April 12, 1776, when the Fourth Provincial Congress boldly adopted the Halifax Resolves, marking any colony’s first official step towards independence.

In 2026, we’ll commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Halifax Resolves, a pivotal moment in American history.  This milestone coincides with the Declaration of Independence, making it an extraordinary occasion.  North Carolina Cultural Resources, in collaboration with the Town of Halifax, is planning a revolutionary celebration!

Join us as we kick off the celebration in Halifax on April 12, 2024.  For the next two years, expect a series of special tours, captivating events, and immersive reenactments that transport you back to the dawn of American independence.  The grand culmination awaits in July 2026, commemorating our nation’s birth.

Stroll down King Street to the charming Town of Halifax, where history and hospitality await.  If you savor farm-to-table dining, The Hen & The Hog is your destination.  Embracing local farmers, their flavors change with the seasons, ensuring every visit is a unique culinary adventure.
