Fall is the perfect time to visit Racine County. Whether you're exploring seasonal orchards, viewing thousands of glowing pumpkins, taking a long drive in the country, or enjoying the crisp weather along the Lake Michigan coastline, there is no shortage of cozy, autumn-themed activities.
Visit a pumpkin farm and enjoy a corn maze, hayride, cider doughnuts and other fun children friendly activities. Kyle's Pumpkin Farm has freshly picked carving pumpkins, a wide selection of decorative pumpkins and gourds, and loads of Atlantic Giant and prizewinner pumpkins. An indoor kids play area and corn maze are open daily, and hayrides and barrel train rides are available on the weekend. Swan's Pumpkin Farm’s entire yard is filled with thousands of pumpkins of all sizes for carving and cooking. You can experience a small hand constructed maze, Barrel Train ride, Big Green Slide, Pumpkin Jump Pillow, Peddle Carts, and Hayride. Their famous apple cider donuts are a must! Apple Holler will yield a classic Wisconsin fall experience. This family owned and operated farm features apple picking, hayrides, cider, baked goods and corn mazes. It is one of Racine County’s most popular autumn destinations.
Hike or Kayak along the Root River on the eastern side of the county, or the Fox River on the western side. The River Bend Nature Center offers walking trails that wind through forests, wetlands, and prairie along the Root River. Rent a kayak or canoe and view the vibrant foliage from the water. Regional outfitters like Howling Wolfe Canoe & Kayak and Fox River Kayaking Company offer seasonal rentals and guided trips along the Fox River. Fall kayaking on the Fox River offers views of tree-lined banks displaying peak reds, oranges, and yellows, especially from late September through October.
Racine County is home to one of the first barn quilt projects in the state of Wisconsin. Quilts on Barns features nearly 30 large, hand painted 8-by-8 foot wooden quilt squares mounted on historic barns and rural structures. The project, launched in 2008 by the Racine Arts Council, spans the cities of Burlington, Caledonia, Norway, and Yorkville. Autumn offers exceptional views of the countryside and fall foliage alongside the artwork take a self-guided drive through the County enjoying the scenic route that takes visitors past rustic roads, local farm stands, and historical landmarks.
Experience Halloween Events at the Racine Zoo. Stroll through the Zoo along the shores of Lake Michigan and enjoy the crisp fall air. Wind your way along a dedicated paved pathway and become immersed in dazzling lights and charming Halloween decorations. From its debut in 2022, this event earned recognition as a nominee in the Innovation Award category for the 2023 Wisconsin Governor’s Tourism Awards. Plan your visit for October and experience the zoo as its lakefront setting is especially scenic in autumn.
Finally, take a crisp walk along North Beach. While swimming season may be over, fall is one of the best times to enjoy our Lake Michigan shoreline. The combination of colorful leaves, dramatic waves, and cool temperatures creates a very unique—and often more beautiful—experience than summer.
