“Wild & Wonderful”… “Almost Heaven”… These are customarily the words that come to mind when one hears West Virginia mentioned. And they fit well. Honestly, they only scratch the surface of what The Mountain State truly is. Here in West Virginia, we are blessed with 55 amazing counties and each has much to offer visitors. Mineral County is in that number and it is not lacking in outstanding scenic locations, activities, and food options.

Named for her abundance of natural resources, Mineral County is nestled comfortably in the 4-season area known as the Potomac Highlands. Her County seat is Keyser, WV; a small railroad town of around 6,000 Mountaineers, widely known in the area as “The Friendliest City in the USA”.

The historical Potomac River system winds its way through our hills and valleys, making for ample opportunities for outdoor experiences. With activities ranging from kayaking and canoeing, to fishing, hiking, biking, birdwatching and photography, Mineral County offers something to EVERYONE! Locations like Jennings Randolph Lake, Barnum, Fort Ashby and our numerous overlooks throughout the area offer endless photogenic landscapes.

With the Potomac flowing in several branches, all areas of Mineral County have ready access to the water. If you are a seasoned veteran of fast water or just a beginner, you are certain to find a boating experience you won’t forget. If fishing is your sport, those same streams will provide you with days of opportunities to hook into some rainbow, brown, or the world-famous golden trout!
