For many first-time visitors, you may start at the New River Gorge Canyon Rim Visitor Center. The New River Gorge Bridge Overlook has a path located to the right of the Visitor Center, leading to a wooden platform with an amazing view of the bridge itself. Adventurous Thrills
For those who like a side of adrenaline with their stunning view, take your turn at whitewater rafting in the gorge. Separating into two parts, the upper section contains Class I-III rapids, allowing for calm, relaxing waves for families or first timers to have an easy time experiencing the activity. The lower section is for more experienced veterans, containing Class III-V rapids. These waves really test the skills but finish directly under the New River Gorge. However you choose to adventure, you’re sure to have your breath taken by the view.
If you prefer to see the views from above, rather than on the water, Bridge Walk offers a one-of-a-kind experience to walk the catwalk below the New River Gorge Bridge itself. Strap on your harness, take the daring walk out, and enjoy the view of the river below. You may even spot a few whitewater rafters on a sunny day.
Hiking
Some of the New River Gorge’s best views are worth the hike. Long Point Trail is a 3.1-mile trail featuring a breathtaking overlook of the bridge, where the sights are truly stunning. Another great overlook is the Grandview Main Overlook, a fully paved and accessible overlook that stands tall above the New River. It is an easy-to-access spot for any time of traveller. Once voted the “Best National Park Hike”, Endless Wall Trail is a 3-mile loop that towers over the New River and a phenomenal view of the bridge. Bonus: Rhododendrons on the Endless Wall Trail peak in late spring and fill the gorge with pops of pink.
