Putnam County offers a variety of exciting adventures and experiences to suit every lifestyle. Visitors can take a relaxing drive along Route 301 from Carmel to Cold Spring. Along the way, they can make a pit stop and experience a bit of Zen at the Chuang Yen Monastery, home of the largest indoor Buddha in the Western Hemisphere. Explore the seasonal flowers at Stonecrop Gardens. Stroll the grounds and learn about Putnam’s history at Boscobel House & Gardens and at the West Point Foundry. At both venues you will enjoy the stunning views of the majestic Hudson River, Constitution Marsh and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Be sure to stop by the Cold Spring Bandstand along the waterfront for ice cream before shopping on Main Street. Outdoor enthusiasts can kayak the mighty Hudson River with Hudson River Expeditions or hike the amazing trails at Michael Ciaiola Conservation Area, the Hudson Highlands State Park or Arden Point for breathtaking views. If you are not afraid of heights, climb to the very top of the 80-foot-high Nimham Fire Tower, you may be able to get a clear view of the Catskills. Or simply, spend a weekend away from it all and camp under the stars at Fahnestock State Park.

Some of the best days during the summer are sitting back, relaxing and catching a fish. From Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park to Clarence Fahnestock State Park, Putnam has some exquisite locations to catch a variety of bass, trout, or sunfish.
